Charles goal holds for Cibao against Atletico Vega Real

(May 20, 2022) Herold Charles’ first-half goal proved enough to see Cibao FC triumph 1-0 against fellow Dominicans Atletico Vega Real in the semi-finals of the Flow Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship 2022 on Thursday night at the ‘Estadio Cibao FC in Santiago de los Caballeros , Dominican Republic.

With the victory, Cibao will advance to Sunday’s final where they will aim for their second FCCCC crown against Violette of Haiti. The club has also secured at least a place in the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf League.

Atletico Vega Real will play the third-place game against Jamaica’s Waterhouse on Sunday, hoping to secure a place in the SCL.

It was a dream start for Cibao with Charles on the end of a cross and sending a diving header into the net for a 1-0 lead at 11′.

Atletico Vega Real’s return task took a heavy blow in the 51st when Manuel Vidal picked up a second yellow card, reducing his squad to 10 men with almost half to play.

But Cibao’s advantage was short-lived, as six minutes later at 57′ Lihue Prichoda picked up a second yellow card, leaving it 10-10 for the final half-hour plus.

Atletico Vega Real stayed in search of an equalizer and they looked set to get it in the 68′ on a solid header from Guillermo Melendez, but Cibao’s GK veteran Miguel Lloyd made a brilliant save from reaction to prevent the goal.

In the end, Lloyd and the Cibao defense held on until the final whistle to secure the precious victory.
