Truckee’s “wild side” is finally protected from development
To escape the hustle and bustle of downtown Truckee, you don’t have to go far. Just across the river there is a place that looks like a portal to another dimension. Truckee Springs is a sunny sagebrush meadow dotted with evergreen trees, and I walk through the heart of it.
The Truckee River is the only outlet to Lake Tahoe and it heads north from Tahoe City. When it reaches the town of Truckee, the river turns east, and this is where Truckee Springs is on the south bank of the river.
