West Ham Perfect Place For Jesse Lingard
Ian Wright has expressed his joy at seeing Jesse Lingard succeed at West Ham after his difficult time at Manchester United and believes the London Stadium is the right place for him.
Lingard won and converted the rebound from a penalty kick in West Ham’s 2-0 win over Leeds United at the London Stadium on Monday night.
It was his fourth goal in six games for the Hammers since joining the club on loan from Manchester United in the January transfer window.
Wright believes Lingard has shown good mental toughness to get out of his troubles at Manchester United and prove himself at West Ham this season.
He also praised David Moyes for giving the 28-year-old a chance to relaunch his career at London Stadium and believes West Ham are the perfect club for Lingard to advance in his career.
The former striker said on Premier League TV after the match: “It must have been difficult for him just because he wasn’t playing, wasn’t even involved in matchday squads or traveling but training all the time.
“He showed a lot of mental toughness and for David Moyes to recognize that he can come to West Ham with [Jarrod] Bowen plays well and [Pablo] Fornales and [Manuel] Lanzini may not be playing as much as they should be.
“And put him on the side alongside Michail Antonio, he likes to move the ball forward, he likes to face people and know he can score.
“It’s the perfect place for him and I’m so glad it worked for him.”
Lingard’s loan ends this summer and there are suggestions West Ham wants to sign him on a permanent Manchester United deal at the end of the season.
