Woman accused of shooting in Youngstown is also accused of assaulting police
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A woman charged with obstructing justice in connection with a shooting investigation has been charged with assaulting a police officer.
The charge, a fourth-degree felony, was filed in city court on Friday against Sasha Montanez-Vega, 34. She is also charged with obstructing justice, a fifth degree felony, for her role in a September 15 shooting that injured a juvenile.
Detective Sgt. Rick Spotleson said Montanez-Vega is accused of spitting and kicking a member of the US Marshals Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force who arrested him on Thursday after a warrant was filed for the first charge.
Her boyfriend, Jan Fontanez, 25, is charged with the shooting in the 3400 block of Hillman Street. He has yet to be arrested on a criminal assault warrant.
Spotleson said a son of Montanez-Vega had a fight with another miner earlier today and the miner visited Fontanez’s home. Fontanez shot the miner while he was on the sidewalk, Spotleson said.
At the scene of the crime, police recovered several shell casings from the porch.
The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Health Center for treatment for his injuries, which were described by police as “not life threatening”.
Montanez-Vega is expected to be brought to justice later Friday in city court on both counts.
